A Friend

on September 16, 2014

Everyone needs one, that is, the friend at work who doesn’t care about policy. They skip a mandatory meeting and laugh about it as they bump into you on your way back from the most boring one hour of your live. They don’t wait for the doctor to order another fifty of Fentanyl and one of Versed for the patient getting a hole punched into their lung — they just give the medicine and notify the physician at the end. They aren’t worried about overtime — rushing through their charting — doing it haphazardly. They are notating every aberrant vital sign that occurred in the one hour period.

You gotta love these people, not because they have an irreverent attitude for the necessary bureaucracy of large businesses, but because they are not intimidated by it and still make patient care number one.
No matter what your career is, I think you understand the intent of the above post. It’s nice to know someone that does the right thing all the time, even if it’s not the cool thing to do.

My shout out goes to Jo, Robin, Phyllis, Suzann, Tony

How about you?

I agree that I appreciate people who live their principles. I would like to imagine I am a rebel like that, but I suspect I just want to remain unnoticed by the powers that be.

  2. some of our best friends are such friends. Had dinner last night with such a friend who we have not worked with in more than 30 years. yes, we need these friends, xo LMA

I strive for efficiency, but that includes disregarding rules and procedures that are irrelevant time-wasters.
